Committees
From CS-Quakers
All the religious work of the Meeting is done by volunteers. Working together in committees (many of which are open to non-Quakers) is one of the most effective ways we have of getting to know and appreciate each other.Here are brief descriptions of the work and responsibilities of the committees of Chatham Summit Quaker Meeting.
| Clerk & Assistant Clerk | The clerk and assistant clerk facilitate of Meetings with a concern for business. |
| Religious Education | The Religious Education Committee plans and implements religious education and activities for the children and youth of the meeting. This involves selection and preparation of First Day School curriculum as well as recruiting teachers for First Day School. The committee endeavors to involve the meeting in First Day School and the lives of its children and youth. |
| Young Children/Child Care | This committee operates as a sub-committee of Religious Education to provide child care and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for infants and toddlers during weekly worship services. The committee also arranges for child care during committee meetings or other times when child care is requested. |
| Communications | This committee works to ensure smooth and accurate communication with the meeting as well as external communication to the community about activities of Chatham Summit Quaker Meeting. Members of the committee include the editor of the newsletter, the webmaster for the meeting’s list serve, and the coordinator of meeting house scheduling. |
| Facilities | Facilities Committee oversees the maintenance and housekeeping of the meeting house and grounds, including arranging for minor repairs, hiring contractors for maintenance and repair, and arranging periodic work days for minor maintenance, housekeeping, and clean-up. This committee works closely with Trustees to identify and plan for maintenance expenditures. |
| Finance | This committee prepares the annual budget for meeting approval and provides advice and recommendations on financial matters of the meeting. Committee members include the Treasurer of the Meeting and Treasurer of Trustees. |
| Library | The Library Committee maintains the meeting’s collection of books and printed materials and oversees circulation and shelving of the collection, including special collections such as the Peace Library. The committee also maintains meeting records and archives. |
| Ministry & Counsel | This committee focuses on nurturing the spiritual life of the meeting community through adult religious education and spiritual growth classes. The committee plans the meeting’s annual retreat at Powell House. It works with Oversight Committee to welcome new members and arrange for clearness committees as requested. |
| Oversight | This committee has responsibility for fostering a caring meeting community, providing pastoral care to individuals and fostering an atmosphere where all are encouraged to take responsibility for the nurture and care of others. It works with Ministry and Counsel to arrange for clearness committees in matters of membership, marriage and other concerns in which members or attenders request clearness. |
| Nominating | Nominating committee is responsible for nominating members and attenders to fill all the clerking and committee positions in the meeting. It is asked to discern the gifts and interests of members and attenders and to encourage and facilitate the participation of all members and attenders in the work of the meeting. |

| Representatives To Summit and Chatham Interfaith Councils | Our representatives at local ecumenical gatherings. |
| Trustees | The Trustees of Chatham Summit Quaker Meeting have fiduciary responsibility for the meeting’s assets, including major repairs and capital investments in the meeting house and maintenance of the rental house on the property. |
Note: Memberships on Trustees, Ministry and Counsel, Nominating, and Oversight are restricted to members of Chatham Summit Quaker Meeting.
