About the Event
Friends will have an opportunity to discuss immigration issues and the situation at Newark’s Delaney Hall detention facility on Sunday, June 21 after meeting. Our discussion will be facilitated by Dan Somers and Jeff Bird. As an ordained Episcopal priest, Dan has had a long-standing concern for our treatment of immigrants, noting the Biblical injunction in Leviticus (“When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.” Leviticus 19:33-34 NIV). Both Dan and Jeff, our clerk of Peace & Social Action, have been present at Delaney Hall and have been monitoring the situation there.
